Garden Route Triathlon Training

Triathlon Training  (9 Days) 

Experience the awesomely beautiful and unspoilt coastline of Mossel Bay area, the Lakes of Wilderness and the Outeniqua Mountains in the Garden Route while you do your Triathlon Training. While you are here in the Garden Route of South Africa, see the best the area can offer in between your training sessions.

Day 1:

-Pick up at George Airport.
-Book into guesthouse at Glentana (20km from airport) http://www.melkhoutkloof.co.za/
-Game Drive at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, home to four of the Big 5

-Dinner at Melkhoutkloof Guesthouse.

Day 2:

-Breakfast at Melkhoutkloof Guesthouse.
-Swim at Santos Bay, Cycle from Santos to Glentana, 30 to 80km) (Distance depend on training)
-Lunch at Glentana Restaurant

Afternoon Options:

-Abseiling at the Point in Mossel Bay with the sea as backdrop http://www.gardenrouteadventures.co.za/abseiling.htm
-Afternoon run/walk (5km) to the famous Glentana shipwreck, with beautiful scenery along the way http://www.sahikes.co.za/Details.asp?TrailID=80
-Dinner at Melkhoutlkloof Guesthouse.

Day 3:

-Breakfast at Melkhoutkloof Guesthouse
-Climb towards the George peak in the Outeniqua mountains (1 337m) or Cradock peak (1 578m), depending on your level of fitness http://www.places.co.za/html/george_trails.html
-Cycle back from George to Glentana (30km) and/or Optional swim in the 25m swimming pool at Virgin Active Gym in George
-Dinner at Melkhoutkloof Guest house

Day 4:

-Breakfast at Melkhout kloof Guest house
-Cycle from Glentana to Sedgefield via the Old road and back (80km)
-Lunch at Glentana Café

Afternoon Options:

-Scuba Diving in Mossel Bay in the afternoon (optional)
– Swim at Santos Bay
– Paddle at Santos Bay

Day 5:

-Breakfast at Melkhout kloof Guest house
-Cycle from Glentana or George to Beervlei hut (55km  or 25km tar road), start of the famous Outeniqua hiking trail http://www.gardenrouteadventureguide.com/outeniqua-hiking-trail.html
-Run/Hike from Beervlei hut to Windmeulnek on the Outeniqua Hiking trail in the Outeniqua mountains (15km) http://www.footprint.co.za/outeniqua1.htm
-Picnic lunch at Beervlei hut
-Sleep at Windmeulnek with the most amazing views from the hut.

Day 6:

-Breakfast at Windmeulnek
-Run/Hike from Windmeulnek to Platbos hut (17km), watch out for the Knysna Elephants!!
Windmeulnek to Platbos: The trail stars off with a short climb along a ridge before a steep descent of about 500m to cross the Karatara River. This is followed by an equally stiff climb until a contour path is reached. The path passes several picturesque mountain streams with ferns and a rich variety of fynbos with many different examples of fungi. On a clear day you can enjoy lovely views towards the distant coastline. Eventually the trail descends and the last part of the day takes the hiker along a forest road until the Platbos hut is reached. The Platbos hut is a purpose built hiker’s hut with basic accommodation for 30 hikers.

-Bike (70km) from Farleigh to Glentana
-Dinner at Melkhout Kloof Guesthouse

Day 7:

-Breakfast at Melkhout Kloof Guesthouse
– Swim at Santos Bay
– Run back from Hartenbos to Glentana (20km) (closer options available)
– Lunch at Glentana Café
– Relax in afternoon or do another game Drive at Botlierskop or Elephant ride or horse ride

Day 8:

-Breakfast at Glentana
– Swim in Island Lake in Wilderness (fresh water Lake)
-Cycle from Wilderness to Knysna (60km)
-Boat trip on the Knysna lagoon to Featherbed and buffet lunch http://www.knysnafeatherbed.com/featherbed.htm

Afternoon Options in Knysna:

-Sailing for two hours on the Knysna Lagoon, weather permitted http://springtide.co.za/charters/ (optional) or just paddle on the lagoon.
– Scuba Diving at Knysna Heads (extra optional) or kayaking on Knysna lagoon http://www.places.co.za/html/knysnadive.html
-Visit the Noetzie castles with hundreds of stairs to climb climb down to the beach and back again  http://noetziecastles.co.za/
-Drive back with the car to Glentana
-Dinner at Melkhoutkloof Guest house

Day 9:

– Breakfast at the Melkhout kloof Guesthouse
– Leave for the Airport in the morning/afternoon, to fly back.
